IWPL-6: A Game of Grit and Determination
Wheelchair cricket is a unique and inspiring adaptation of the traditional sport of cricket, designed for individuals with physical disabilities. Born out of the desire to make the game more inclusive, it embodies the essence of determination, resilience, and the undying love for sports. It offers athletes a platform to showcase their skills and talent, while also challenging societal perceptions of disability.
NRF actively associated with Indian Wheelchair Premier League (IWPL) Season 6, held from 08th June to 14th June 2025 at Bal Bhavan International School, Sector 12, Dwarka. The Foundation’s expert sports physiotherapists played a crucial role during the tournament, under the Aegis of DIVYANG CRICKET CONTROL BOARD OF INDIA.
Moreover, The NRF physiotherapy team was instrumental in providing immediate on-field support, delivering quick analysis and treatment for injuries, which enabled several players to continue competing without interruption.
The Evolution of IWPL-6
The countdown officially began with a vibrant and spirited poster launch held at the Sector 17 DDA Sports Complex, Dwarka. A special function was also recently held to mark another milestone – the unveiling of the coveted IWPL Season 6 trophy. Among the chief guests were ACP Kishore Kumar Rewla, Rtn. Suresh Gupta (Maharaja Agrasen Hospital) and Rajender Singh (Ex-ACP), who joined as the Special Guest. The event also welcomed K.K. Bansal, Chairman of Abhinav Global School, Md. Rashid, Secretary of DCCBI and several other prominent figures from the Dwarka community. Mukesh Sinha, Managing Editor of Dwarka City, was the convenor of the event. A total of eight teams from Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Hyderabad, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana participated in the tournament, with around 150 players showcasing their talent and determination. The opening day featured a friendly match. Regular matches were off 15 overs, while the semi-finals were played as 20-over games. The Delhi Dabang lifted the glittering IWPL6 trophy after winning a fiery match.
IWPL aims to empower differently-abled athletes and stimulates breaking societal barriers through sport. Injury prevention and on field treatment is crucial for an athlete’s performance enhancement. The Neuroaid and Research foundation (NRF) was privileged to provide on field physiotherapy support during IWPL 6. Experienced Sports Physiotherapists from NRF team conducted warm-up sessions targeting muscle groups prone to sprains and strains, especially the shoulder and trunk muscles essential for wheelchair players. Prompt analysis of injury mechanisms with quick on-field physiotherapy treatment enabled athletes to continue with the match during the league.
NRF has been associated with IWPL since 2022 and remains committed to support para athletes promoting their well-being on and off the field.
The active involvement of NRF in IWPL-6 is a testament to its commitments to holistic rehabilitation and community empowerment. By supporting adaptive sports and providing specialized physiotherapy, NRF continues to advocate for equal opportunities and a healthier, more inclusive society.
